Job Description

Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading the team operating the plant during his shift. This position plans and coordinates activities of operators and workers. It is qualified to perform the functions and lead the work of others.

Main duties:

  1. Leads shift activities in the operation of automatic and semi-automatic machines and related equipment including pumps, valves, Pulpers, mixers, conveyors, blowers, chemical feed equipment, wastewater processing equipment used to treat water sewer bylaw limits.
  2. Makes independent decisions concerning process control changes. Directs the activities of other operators assigned to the shift.
  3. Trains operators in plant standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and Safety practices through the use of the “On The Job” and VNA University training program;
  4. Monitors flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures and related controls through instrument panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units in assigned area;
  5. Monitors and records operating conditions observations and data in a shift log;
  6. Ensures conformance to process specifications. Diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective action per procedure. Verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor and takes corrective actions;
  7. Performs routine and preventative maintenance and maintenance related items as assigned;
  8. Performs field tests (chemical, physical and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages for process control units or alter unit processes. Samples sludge and solid streams for determination of solids balancing;
  9. Monitors process chemical supplies daily and places or adjusts chemical orders to insure continued plant operations;
  10. Performs minor maintenance including, but not limited to, routine preventive maintenance, lubrication and minor adjustments as required;
  11. Operates vehicles for plant operational purposes;
  12. Ensures good housekeeping practices are followed in accordance to safety and environmental policies.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School education or equivalent with the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally (operational, process, safety and quality instructions).
  • Associate's degree in a science or technical area preferred;
  • Over five years experience in a related position and environment with knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices of water/wastewater treatment.
  • Must have an understanding of the BTA Processes including Digesters, wastewater treatment process, water quality assurance, maintenance strategy and laboratory procedures.
  • Must demonstrate effective skills in troubleshooting, problem solving and team building.
  • Ingenuity and initiative are required to coordinate problem resolution and to execute the schedule requirements within a team environment.
  • Have general knowledge of budget preparation and understanding of cost control.
  • Demonstrated good verbal communications and interpersonal skills in order to interface with and motivate all levels of personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, timely, effective, complete and easily understood written communications and reports.
  • Proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).
  • Ability to use computer systems such as Email, VNA University, SCADA trending and data retrieval.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency calls as needed and work extended hours to accommodate site needs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Code of Business Conduct and other Company policies and procedures.

Shifts (2):

  • Monday - Friday; 6:00 AM– 2:30 PM & 2:30 PM – 10:30 PM,
  • Overtime; two weeks days then switch to two weeks afternoons. Possible extending to 3 shift operation in the future.

Salary: 33 - 40.35 per hour
