Job Description
Position Purpose:
Associate Project Engineer - Commissioning with Mechanical Concentration, must be a self-motivated, energetic professional and versed in projects touching on building MEP systems design, commissioning, retro-commissioning, and construction of critical systems ranging in size and complexity. The ideal candidate shall possess theoretical and practical knowledge in the testing and troubleshooting of mechanical systems and related controls. Candidate will be responsible for executing daily tasks, maintaining project schedules and assisting Project Engineers. This Client-Facing role requires technical competency, organizational skillset, and reports directly to the Project Engineer.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Commission mechanical distribution equipment and related controls in a variety of environments, including:
- Mission critical facilities (e.g. data centers)
- Central boiler and chiller plants
- Small power generation and cogeneration stations (up to 100 MW)
- Conduct Level 1 – 5 commissioning activities in accordance with client requirements
- Perform physical testing of mechanical equipment and measure results using test instrumentation
- Identify and assemble relevant documentation, drawings, and data
- Monitor mechanical system performance and suggest improvements where needed
- Assist in developing building-specific commissioning plans
- Develop and/or review factory witness test procedures
- Attend factory witness tests and provide detailed report identifying deficiencies
- Submit and maintain daily commissioning reports as required
- Train junior engineers
- Respond to customer inquiries in a manner that exceeds the customer’s expectations
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations
- Knowledgeable with common mechanical, and controls-related building equipment, including:
- Fuel Systems
- Backup generators
- Reciprocating engines
- Chillers (i.e. electric, air-cooled, multi-stage)
- Boilers (steam and hot water)
- Pumps
- Roof top units
- Air handling units
- Computer room air conditioning units
- Computer room air handlers
- Cooling towers
- VESDA
- Fire Protection
- Building management systems
Work Environment:
- Travel nationwide 50% - 75% if not assigned locally.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- BSc/MSc in Mechanical Engineering with 2 or more years of hands-on experience in mechanical/controls test and commissioning of mission critical systems
OR
- Minimum of 4 or more years of experience as a commissioning agent with hands-on experience in mechanical/controls test and commissioning of mission critical systems.
- Experience in Mission Critical facility commissioning essential.
- Distributed control system experience is a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Organized, detail-oriented, analytical, proactive, problem solver.
- Good communication and relationship skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work with limited supervision.
- Reasonable understanding of Building Management Systems.
- Deep understanding and application of test instrumentation.
- A “client-first” mentality.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Professional Engineers License is a plus but not required.
Additional Information
Pay Range: $75000 to $85000 per year.
