Job Description

Position Purpose: 

The Stationary Engineer will safely and reliably work alongside licensed engineer providing support in the operation of boilers, water cooled chillers, and ancillary equipment.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Maintains safe working conditions: identifies and corrects or reports unsafe conditions in work area.
  • Will stand watch as Operator or Auxiliary Operator and may oversee technical personnel
  • Operates boilers, centrifugal water cooled chillers controls, and ancillary equipment; manages pressure, temperatures, and flow of steam system, including boilers, feed-water, and distribution systems.
  • Controls boiler and feed-water quality; oversees fuel oil and natural gas transfer and storage at assigned plant
  • When assigned a Control Operator watch, will oversee the operations at either a peaking or remote plant during the watch
  • During backshifts, weekends, and holidays, may act as the primary representative for contact with customers and the public requiring accurate logging of complaints and resolution of the problems or passing of the information on to the appropriate supervisor
  • Will provide operational and maintenance support for complex. This includes: lighting, plumbing, HVAC, life safety, electrical repair, cleaning, and painting.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Some experience with plumbing, electrical, and HVAC would be an advantage.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated maturity, reliability, and judgment to stand watch as a Control Operator.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts involving weekends, holidays, backshifts, and overtime is required.
  • Must have high mechanical aptitude level.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must have basic computer skills.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

  • Must hold a valid driver license with a satisfactory driving record to maintain minimum company required insurance coverage.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to tolerate confined spaces, tolerate heights, lift heavy equipment and carry materials up and down stairs with the capacity of lifting 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk a minimum of three miles per day.
  • Must have ability to work from elevated surfaces; (ladders, platforms, lifts)
