Job Description
Position Purpose:
Performs work involving the operation and maintenance of the wastewater collection system, storm drainage system, and CSO facilities. Relies upon instruction and pre-established guidelines to perform functions of the job.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operates and maintains equipment associated with sanitary and storm water collections systems, when necessary, checks and monitors barricades, ditches, and other repair work performed in the collection system.
- Conducts street sweeping
- Conducts Responds to customer complaints, investigates and clears blockages when appropriate.
- Keeps the general area clean as well as keeping equipment and machinery clean and greased as necessary.
- Performs tasks involved in the upkeep of structures and grounds. Uses various hand tools and power tools.
- Performs maintenance activities
- Performs a variety of operational tasks relevant to safe and reliable operations of collection systems.
- Prepare the truck for the day, making sure the equipment is on the truck.
- Clean the truck daily and may on occasion assist the Operator with basic truck corrective actions.
- Set up the traffic control.
- Prepare the site, open the manholes.
- Check the upstream or downstream manhole.
- Participate in the tailgate daily meeting.
- Inspect all equipment and vehicles at the beginning and end of the day.
- Works a scheduled shift and will be subject to emergency call-in work
- Ability to understand and carry out written and/or verbal work orders and assignments
- Responds to wastewater and water system emergencies.
- Observes all on-the-job safety regulations.
- Complies with state and federal regulations.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- One year of experience working with storm water and sanitary collection systems or piping systems similar to that found in a wastewater collection system preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret data from maps and technical drawings preferred.
- Ability to understand and execute written and oral instructions.
- Ability to maintain and repair equipment.
- Must have a reasonable mechanical aptitude.
- Must have the ability to maintain effective working relations with supervisors, other employees, and the general public.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- CDL B with required endorsements within 1 year of hire.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Pay Rate: $24.19 per hour.
