Job Description

Position Purpose: 

Responsible for all aspects of operations; Production, Water & Wastewater Treatment, T&D, Customer Service and Wastewater Collection. This positions also requires working on various days of the week plus holidays, weekends and overtime.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Operates surface water treatment plants and well systems.
  • Operates wastewater treatment plants.
  • Completes daily records of pumpage figures, chemical usage and general comments on plant production/treatment and facility conditions.
  • Prepares daily, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as needed for regulatory and company purposes.
  • Takes water/wastewater samples for regulatory requirement as well as daily process corrections.
  • Checks and maintains reservoirs/lakes and their intakes as well as wastewater discharge points.
  • Adjusts chemical feed to maintain water quality standards for water and discharge of treated wastewater.
  • Works with various chemicals used for water/wastewater quality and treatment.
  • Works on pumping, treatment and electrical equipment. Must be able to identify problems and malfunctions.
  • Maintains, repairs and replaces equipment as needed including pumps and motors.
  • Maintains and repairs treatment plant facilities including filters, basins chemical pumps.
  • Climbs water storage tanks.
  • Maintains distribution systems including mains, services, valves and hydrants.
  • Maintains pumping stations and regulators.
  • Maintains collection systems including pumping stations, manholes and clean-outs.
  • Works as an Emergency On-Call person on a rotational basis.
  • Communicates with customers relating to leaks, water quality, bill disputes and general complaints.
  • Communicates with local Department of Health officials as well as local town officials as directed by management.
  • Provides coverage and may be assigned to perform duties at any Company plant/facility location.
  • Reads customer meters for billing purposes.
  • Maintains facilities including landscaping, snow removal and small building repairs.
  • Must drive heavy automotive equipment and operate power equipment.
  • Performs job duties of Control System Operator as assigned.
  • Other similar, related or lesser job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Computer skills MS Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and mathematics.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

  • Must have applicable operating licenses and certifications as determined by the company including NYS Water System Operator IIA, IIB, C, D, and NYS 2A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.

Additional Information

Pay Rate: $44.96 per hour.
