The Lab Chemist Intern will work as part of a lab team in Trevose, PA. The primary goal is to generate a correlation between a primary analytical method for the determination of hydroxyl number by titration and a secondary method of determination by near infra-red spectroscopy (NIR). The goal is to implement a NIR method for rapid determination of hydroxyl number for a specific anti-foulant that is insoluble in almost all solvents.

 Essential Responsibilities:

  • Determine hydroxyl number of 25+ samples using ASTM E-222

  • Generate NIR reports of each sample including high/low limits

  • Develop a correlation model using Metrohm VISION software

  • Validate method using control samples

  • Generate real-time in-process data of synthesis batch

  • Document and write formal method for use in manufacturing plants.

  • If time permits, repeat experiment to correlate non-aqueous acid number by titration to NIR

  • Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or equivalent with 2-3 years of college chemistry lab experience
  • Familiarity with basic wet chemistry and analytical techniques

  • Ability to work independently in a lab environment with other team members

  • Self-motivated and a team player

  • Demonstrated dedication to lab safety

  • Effective problem-solving skills

  • An accomplished communicator, able to produce quality technical reports and documents
