Job Description
The VIE will join Veolia Engineering & Consulting's Spanish team in Madrid. He/She will contribute to the development of energy studies and modeling projects related to power systems and energy transition in developing countries.
Our Spanish subsidiary is a consulting firm specializing in the long-term development and climate impacts of global power, natural gas, and water infrastructure. The company brings together expertise in economics, finance, law, data analytics, electrical and power engineering, and energy systems.
Main responsibilities include:
Contributing to energy trajectory modeling to analyze long-term energy system evolution and optimization of portfolio planning
Participation in medium/long term power sector planning, contributing to develop optimization/dispatch models of electricity systems to assess the investments and operational costs associated with different generation or transmission expansion options, using Optgen-SDDP tools.
Contributing to optimization studies for the technical evaluation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and studying the economical profitability of such assets on electricity systems.
Participating in modeling studies of electrical transmission and distribution networks using DigSilent PowerFactory.
Participating in modernization programs for electrical systems and the deployment of smart grid technologies.
Supporting data analysis and visualization through tools such as Power BI, Excel, or programming languages (Python, etc.).
Supporting diagnostic missions on analysis of public transmission / distribution networks in international contexts.
Contributing to the preparation of technical proposals in response to international tenders.
Collaborating with Veolia teams and international clients on projects funded by international financial institutions (World Bank, EBRD, Development Agencies, etc.) across Africa, Europe, South America, and the Caribbean.
The VIE will be required to travel internationally as part of consulting missions and project execution (up to a maximum of one week per month on average).
Qualifications
Educational background: Master’s degree (or equivalent) from an engineering school with a specialization in energy and a good understanding of the energy markets.
Previous experience: 1 year of prior experience (internship or professional) in the energy or power systems sector. A first international experience would be appreciated.
Skills:
Solid academic knowledge of electricity production and distribution systems (interconnected networks and decentralized infrastructures).
Experience with power dispatch tools (SDDP, Plexos or equivalent) and/or network modeling tools (PowerFactory or equivalent) would be a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, familiarity with Google Suite, and interest in data analysis and visualization tools (Power BI, Python, etc.).
Languages:
Fluent in English, Good level in Spanish, and French (mandatory).

Duration: 18 months (subject to renewal up to 24 months)
Remuneration: 2467,31€ net/month (according to the rates of October 2025)
Benefits: 30 days' leave per 12 months / Tax-free / French pension contribution
