Job Description

TheInstrumentation and Controls Technician inspects, maintains, repairs and installs mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic and/or hydraulic equipment at plant and/or pump stations.

Main Responsibilities: 

  1. Repair, maintain, calibrate, install, replace, troubleshoot and diagnose various instrumentation devices on different machinery.
  2. Experience with instrumentation devices from different manufacturers like Endress & Hauser , ABB, VEGA Etc.
  3. Monitoring and controlling the plant by using devices, sensors and recorders to monitor and diagnose to ensure operation of the plant within desired parameters.
  4. Performing calibration schedule for variable transmitters like  pressure, temperature, level and flow. 
  5. Data analysis by collecting and analyzing real time data to optimize processes and improving the quality and potential failure. 
  6. Inspect completed repairs and recommend appropriate solution;
  7. Perform all work with strict adherence to all applicable safety legislation and procedures;
  8. Requisition supplies and materials as required and approved by management;
  9. Work from engineering drawings rough sketches, manuals or verbal instruction and install equipment to diagram specifications;
  10. Provide performance feedback to workers to motivate or improve adherence to operating procedures or quality standards;
  11. Complete work orders as required and ensures appropriate follow-up communication;
  12. Disassemble machines and repair/replace/adjust parts also clean and lubricate equipment, parts and machinery, participate in mechanical PM’s and assist in mechanical works when needed
  13. Maintain equipment in proper operating condition;
  14. Assist co-workers with any questions or issues regarding task completion.
  15. Maintain excellent housekeeping practices in work areas and throughout the facility.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • VValid 447A Instrumentation and Control Technician Licence 
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience as an Instrumentation and Control Technician in a heavy industrial environment, such as water treatment, chemical processing, petrochemicals, cement production, or metal processing.
  • Proficient at troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining and servicing all plant equipment in a timely manner.
  • Experience with instrumentation devices from different manufacturers like Endress & Hauser , ABB, VEGA Etc
  • Experience troubleshooting,repairing, maintaining and servicing process instrumentation.
    ex. Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Experience with a variety of machinery, vehicles, material handling equipment, hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to read blueprint and have P&ID understanding proficiency
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Thorough knowledge of all applicable safety legislation.
  • Strong problem solving, planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills. Must be fluent in English (read, write and speak).
  • Must be deadline oriented, reliable and dependable on start and finish times as it impacts the operations
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Must work well with others and possess good hand eye coordination.
  • Must be comfortable rotating through-out the facility as required.

Work Environment:

  • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment, Repetitive tasks, physically demanding, and attention to detail.
  • Work Site Environment: Can get dusty, recycling organic materials odour.
  • Transportation/Travel Information: Must have own transportation to base site address (120 Disco Road) and possess a valid driver's license to operate company vehicle when scheduled at sister site (35 Vanley Crescent, North York, ON M3J 2B7).
  • Shifts:  schedule from Monday - Friday; 6:00 AM– 2:30 PM + Overtime; Flexibility to be scheduled on evenings or weekends in case of operational needs
