Position Purpose:
Under supervision, responsible for the control of an assigned process by operation of wastewater treatment equipment; prepares daily log of routine activity. Work is performed in industrial environment and involves exposure to dust, odors, extremes in temperatures and humidity, noise; generally, works rotating shift hours, on a schedule prepared by management. In addition to the normal industrial environment, the job may include exposure to sewage, confined spaces, gases and odors.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operates assigned plant processes.
- Operates assigned treatment plant equipment by starting/stopping and regulating semi-automatic controls, notes malfunctioning equipment and trouble shoots for needed repairs, and makes needed adjustments where possible and refers maintenance problems to the shift supervisor.
- Records and interprets meter and gauge readings from equipment.
- Takes periodic samples for laboratory analysis.
- Performs tests for process control.
- Records activities in log and prepares and submits daily shift operational reports. (Excel based)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed on 12 hour rotating shift.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma, GED Equivalent or Higher.
- Two years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of operating equipment in wastewater treatment.
- Knowledge of Windows based computer operating system.
- Knowledge of the operation and adjustment of valves, mechanical pumps, motors, chemical feed systems, and semi-automatic controls.
- Knowledge of sampling and laboratory procedures.
- Ability to read and understand a variety of dials, meters, and gauges.
- Communicates effectively via written, electronic and oral methods with co-workers, supervisors, managers, and others when necessary.
- Ability to wear SCBA.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and have the ability to wear breathing apparatus for confined entry.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
