Based in Indonesia/Medan

Direct/Indirect Reports: 45+/-

The General Manager will be responsible for the overall management and leadership of the 900 lps drinking water treatment plant, ensuring efficient operations, maintaining high-quality standards, and adhering to the company's strict ethics, compliance, and safety policies.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the water treatment plant, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency

  • Manage and develop a team of 60 employees across various functions, including operations, maintenance, quality control, finance, HR, and EHS

  • Ensure compliance with local and international water quality standards, environmental regulations, and safety protocols

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to improve plant performance, reduce costs, and increase productivity

  • Manage the plant's budget and financial performance, including cost control and resource allocation

  • Liaise with local authorities, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to maintain positive relationships and ensure compliance

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement best practices in water treatment processes

  • Ensure adherence to the company's ethics and compliance policies throughout all operations

  • Manage risk assessment and mitigation strategies for the facility

Report regularly to senior management on plant performance, challenges, and opportunities

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in water treatment or utility operations, with at least 5 years in a management role

  • Strong knowledge of water treatment processes, quality control, and regulatory requirements in Indonesia

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a large staff

  • Proven track record in operational excellence and process improvement in medium to large-scale operations

  • Strong financial acumen and experience in managing budgets

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse stakeholders

  • Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English (both written and spoken)

  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics, compliance, and safety in previous roles

  • Familiarity with Indonesian labor laws and regulations

 

Other Qualifications

  • Experience working for a multinational utility company

  • Knowledge of ISO standards and international best practices in water treatment

  • Experience in implementing and managing digital transformation initiatives in utility operations

  • Track record of successful change management in a medium-sized organization
