Job Description

Position Purpose: 

The operator will be responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the Town of Jaffrey 1.25 MGD advanced wastewater treatment facility, 6 wastewater pump stations, and 15 miles of collection system. Duties include lab analysis for both compliance and process control, plant and pump station checks, completion of computer-generated work orders, sludge dewatering, and any other activities required for the operation of the WWTF and collection system.    

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Conducts routine testing of wastewater as directed, records test results and maintains the plant logbook with accurate and timely entries of activities.
• Maintaining the facility to include all treatment system components, sampling equipment, and pumps. Identify and report the need for repairs to treatment plant equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, blowers, and chemical feed equipment.
• Performs routine pump station checks and repairs as needed.
• Monitors all charts, gauges and other operating equipment and maintains calibration of plant instrumentation and on-line analyzers according to the frequency specified by permitting agencies and/or the manufacturer.
• Calculates chemical feed rates, calibrates chemical equipment and adjusts chemical feed rates as indicated by lab tests or by direction of the Plant Manager to comply with effluent quality requirements as established for the plant. Adjusts or alters chemical treatment of plant processes as required.
• Responsible for housekeeping and grounds-upkeep including; painting, mopping, dusting, mowing and weed trimming or any other building and grounds work as needed.
• Responsible for rotating on-call coverage and alarm response.

Work Environment:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to a variety of outside weather conditions, including hot temperatures as well as snow and ice. 
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Technical and mechanical work experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

• Ability to operate all equipment and components of a wastewater treatment plant.
• Good communication skills and ability to work well with others is required. 

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

• Valid New Hampshire driver’s license.
• Must Possess a Minimum Wastewater NH Grade 1 certification.

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb stairs or ladders, sit, use hands, kneel, or crouch.
• The employee may regularly lift 10-25 pounds and may occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
