Job Description

Position Purpose: 

The Community Outreach Specialist will organize, execute and promote the New Jersey division’s many community engagement efforts, including the school outreach program, tours of the Haworth Treatment Plant, events at the Haworth Environmental Center and the Watershed Recreation Program. This includes all aspects of events, including creating communications – social media posts, videos, advertisements, press releases, etc. – to promote and celebrate our work in our communities. The Specialist will work closely with the team to deliver programs and communications that align with and support the company’s local and national goals. The Specialist will take on other tasks as needed by the Director, Communications and Community Relations and the team.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Organize, execute and promote the New Jersey division’s many community engagement efforts.
  • Manage the Education Outreach staff, coordinating and conducting tours, schools, library, civic and camp presentations.
  • Understand the educational needs of each grade level of the Education Outreach program and review existing programs as needed or develop new STEM related programs and activities. Assist with the hiring and training of new Outreach Education Instructors and existing Instructors.
  • Assist with the programming and events for the Haworth Environmental Center, the Watershed Recreation Program, the Reservoir Ranger Program and employee volunteer opportunities. Assist with all events, programs and projects, particularly those that are community-centric or public facing.
  • Create communications – social media posts, videos, advertisements, press releases, brochures, etc. – to promote and celebrate our work in our communities. Respond to calls, emails and requests for information.
  • Conduct surveys of events and compile feedback and performance reports.
  • Provide support for the NJ Communications Team as needed, including press releases, newsletters, public forums and other internal and external events.

Work Environment:

  • This position is based in Haworth, NJ, but will include travel within the New Jersey service territory. The Specialist will report for the Manager of Community Relations.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or related field required.
  • Experience in a customer service environment, corporate or customer communications, marketing, public relations, media relations or related fields.
  • Experience in the water or utility industry.
  • Candidate should have at least five years of experience working with children in an educational environment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Great organizational skills.
  • Strong familiarity with Google Applications, Microsoft Office and Virtual Platforms.
  • Ability to be creative in ways to promote positive customer experiences.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

  • Teaching, training background or Teacher Certification is a plus.

Additional Information

Pay Ratee: $82000 to $85000 per year.
