Job Description
Position Purpose:
The position is designed to develop versatile talent through a structured two-year program consisting of two one-year rotations. The intent is to provide recent graduates with comprehensive exposure to Veolia’s water, waste, and energy solutions by rotating between a VNA level role in the Technical, Strategy & Innovation team and a role in the Sustainable Industries & Buildings T&P Engineering & Operations Support Group.
Through project-based assignments, mentorship from experienced professionals, and hands-on operational experience, participants will develop technical and operational expertise while building cross-functional knowledge and networks across the organization. The role emphasizes data analytics, tool development, process mapping, process engineering, operations support and problem-solving skills through medium-complexity projects with measurable outcomes. Participants will gain broader business knowledge through periodic site visits and operational rotations. This performance-based opportunity aims to attract and develop high-potential talent while fostering cross-business collaboration and innovation across the enterprise.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Execute clearly scoped, medium-complexity project-based assignments with measurable outcomes that provide hands-on experience and contribute lasting value to the business by delivering GreenUp targets.
- Conduct data analytics, tool development, and process mapping activities at the analyst level, applying technical foundations to support operational and strategic initiatives.
- Participate in engineering activities-selected projects for O&M support activities.
- Conduct fieldwork addressing technical equipment issues, perform stakeholder interviews, synthesize insights, and develop problem-solving skills through hands-on initiatives.
- Participate in selected operations support activities for O&M sites.
- Participate in periodic site visit learning expeditions to various facilities across Business Units (approximately one visit every other month) to gain broader knowledge of Veolia's operations.
- Complete a two-week operational rotation working directly with operators to understand day-to-day operations, safety protocols, compliance requirements, technology applications, and customer interfaces.
- Collaborate with mentors and experienced professionals throughout rotations to support professional development and technical skill acquisition.
- Engage in knowledge transfer activities and collaboration opportunities with the other rotational program participant to foster cross-business learning and relationship building.
Work Environment:
- Ability to travel up to 50% is required.
- Preferred locations: New York City / New Jersey, Boston, Milwaukee or Houston.
- Typically spends 30% of time in an operations environment and 70% of time in an office environment. Travel as needed.
- Requires working in outside and inside environments with noise and all temperatures and climatic conditions, and must be able to work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Work in plants and operations that by their nature involve the presence of identified chemical and mechanical hazards such as dust, fumes, toxic, corrosive chemicals, rotating machinery, high pressure, hot or cold work temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical hazards.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- This position is for individuals that recently completed their bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, commensurate experience may be considered.
- Advanced degree in a related field and/or internship experience in Environmental services or consulting is a plus.
- Outstanding record of academic achievement would be an asset.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proven record of leadership in work-setting and/or through extra-curricular activities.
- Strong problem-solving, technical and analytical skills are required. Must be comfortable manipulating complex data, evaluating complex issues and pragmatic structuring and solving ambiguous problems.
- Ability to work and participate in teams.
- Capability to drive an independent workstream in the context of a broader team project.
- Ability to understand operational processes and drive continuous improvement.
- Able to communicate complex ideas clearly both in written and verbal formats.
- Intellectual curiosity and drive to succeed.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to develop rapport and credibility with people at all organizational levels, and form strong relationships, internally with colleagues, and externally with stakeholders.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment with adaptability and flexibility to transition between roles and teams.
- Must possess strong time management skills and have a demonstrated ability to work in both team and independent settings.
- Strong PC skills are essential with high proficiency in MS Office Suite/Google Suite. Familiarity with project management and data visualization tools such as Smartsheet or Tableau a plus.
- Strong safety orientation.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Engineer In Training (EIT) Certification or the ability to obtain the EIT in a year from start date is a plus.
- Valid Driver’s license and safe driving record.
Physical Requirements:
- Amount of time spent – Standing 25%, Sitting 25%, Walking 50%.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and enter confined spaces. May be required to use the stairs. ladders, catwalks and supports at heights of 50 feet above the ground.
- May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Requires close visual observation to detect process non-conformance and machine malfunction.
Additional Information
Salary: $60000 - $85000 Per Year.
