POSITION SUMMARY
The Lab Technician I will contribute to upkeep of lab equipment and materials. This position will
perform lab-based chemical tests. In this role, you will utilize experience or expertise to solve
problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-
term and some long-term business goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Conduct testing on raw material, in-process and finished materials using analytical instrumentation and wet chemistry methodology
- Maintain and make general repairs to quality equipment and instrumentation
- Assist the EHS team with waste manifest and other required documentation for waste shipments
- Lab scale polymerizations
- Perform routine and non-routine sample analysis
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs
- Maintain the quality system as established by the Quality System Manual, audit the quality system for effectiveness
- Maintain a safe and clean workspace by following Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs and procedures and to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Maintain Forklift Certification
- Conduct chemical and physical laboratory testing and analysis as directed to assist production in making qualitative and quantitative analyses and report the results to the requestor as needed
- Assist with test method development and work instructions as needed
- Monitor product quality to ensure compliance to standards and specifications.
- Compile and interpret results of tests and analyses.
- Observe and record data in an accurate, precise and organized manner as required
- Assist in laboratory equipment calibration, verification and maintenance as needed
- Assist in certification initiatives
- Maintain and clean laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Conform to safe work practices and compliant to corporate safety program
- Provide and maintain a safe work environment by participating in safety programs, committees, or teams, and by conducting laboratory and plant safety audits.
- Handle hazardous materials in a safe and cautious manne
- If necessary, may perform duties not directly related to position and assist fellow workers
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma / GED
- 1-2 years of experience working in a similar capacity at a manufacturing or laboratory testing facility
- Ability to work overtime or weekends on short notice as needed
- Ability to apply basic mathematics skills
- Ability to analyze data and make decisions accordingly
- Properly interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
- Ability to work proactively and support other personnel and departments.
- Possess a professional attitude
- Ability to multitask and utilize the time available to organize and complete work within given deadlines
- Maintain good attendance habits
- Willingness to drive a forklift
- Ability to work a rotating shift schedule:
- 5:30am -1:30pm, 1:30pm-9:30pm, and 9:30pm-5:30am (Shifts rotate every week)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree in Chemistry or Environmental Health with laboratory experience
- Working knowledge of SAP
- Experience working with lab equipment such as Gas Chromatograph, HPLC, FTIR
- Knowledge of wet chemistry methodology
- Knowledge of waste management regulations and guidelines
- HAZMAT, RCRA and DOT training
- Ability to handle diverse activities simultaneously
- Knowledge of ISO standards, quality procedures and audit techniques
- Knowledge of Quality Control concepts and their application
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Self-starter, team player
- Strong math and computer skills
Pay Range: $25-$35 an hour
