The Intern role within the organization that will take on projects from initiation to completion
during the extent of their time with the team. The successful candidate will have visibility
across many functional groups (engineering, operations, maintenance, etc.) and will
continuously support to optimize safety and manufacturing processes, standard operating
procedures, and assist with process improvement projects.

                **This is a full-time, 12 week internship anticipated to begin in early 2025.**
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operations: Provide day to day support for monitoring, optimizing, and adjusting of facility operational parameters
  • Maintenance: Support development and implementation of maintenance activities or project implementation
  • Integrity Program Implementation: Provide support to the engineering team responsible for development, monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and implementation of mitigation / management programs as required. Support the Integrity Management effort through execution activity support and documentation reviews / completion to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Safety, Security, Health, Environmental & Regulatory: Providing guidance to ensure operations comply with company policies and provide technical support for completion of Safety / Environmental / Regulatory calculations or studies
  • Surveillance: Support engineers in the surveillance monitoring, troubleshooting, and analysis. Lead development, scoping, and sometimes execution of initiatives/projects identified during surveillance to improve facility reliability, capacity, or integrity (downtime analysis, process bad actors, bottleneck identification, and issue identification). Support Operations in ensuring maximum facility availability
  • Safety, Security, Health, & Environment (SSHE) Function Support: Assist with collection, validation, and analysis of data required to complete engineering evaluations in support of the SSHE and Regulatory compliance functions
  • Code & Specification Compliance Evaluations: Assist in reviews of maintenance or project activities (welding, construction, pressure testing, etc.) to ensure implementation in compliance with regulatory, industry, and company requirements outlined in project development
  • Risk & Loss Prevention Analysis: Support for the Risk Assessment & Management (RAM) system to ensure that all risks are appropriately documented, functions are progressing action items to closure, and documentation is adequately completed and reviewed with appropriate management prior to close-out. Participate in Risk Assessment (RA) activities as needed by the team
  • Opportunity Generation & Management of Change (MOC): Assist engineering in execution and implementation of Projects and MOCs by completing appropriate verifications (checklists, Factory Assessment Tests, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, etc.) and sitting in appropriate detailed evaluations (Hazard and Operability Analysis - HAZOP, etc.). Coordinate to ensure all technical documentation is provided to the Doc Control organization
  • Contractor Management: Support for completing quality checks and evaluations of technical / inspection contractors while they are onsite completing execution activities
  • Participate in system walkdowns, Pre startup safety reviews, and other activities to support Commissioning and Startup of site
  • Support the development and progression of the Operations Readiness (OR) schedule to transition the facility from Project Execution / Commissioning to the Start-up / Operations phase.
  • Support incident investigation teams
  • Support regulatory agency audits
  • Reinforce safety and environmental awareness through frequent job observations and by interfacing with plant personnel
  • Work with the Engineering and Maintenance department to assure O&M interests are represented on major projects
  • Perform other duties as required by management
  • Comply with all Veolia Company and HSE procedures and policies

Specific Projects (subject to changes based on needs to facility):

  • Assist in the execution of Management of Change (MOC) projects and execution of Maintenance Replacement Capital (MRC) projects
  • Support all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations at a PSM regulated reaction chemical manufacturing facility
  • Learn and support QC testing within the plant
  • Review, improve, and develop standard operating procedures (SOP) to reflect safe and efficient processes
  • Network with other engineers both internally and externally to the plant to leverage and share plant improvement learnings. Document your observations and make recommendations
  • Final presentation to be presented to site leadership at the end of summer presenting his/her learning experience, and detailed scope of project

The Process Engineering Intern can expect to gain practical experience in a broad
range of areas such as:

  • Learn how to design and develop technical solutions to achieve business objectives and how to test your ideas
  • Work independently - to learn how to plan things out carefully
  • Learn how to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in a practical situation
  • Become acquainted with real life problem-solving.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited University Degree program pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. (preferably junior or senior)
  • 3.0 overall GPA or higher (preferred)
  • Coursework in engineering problem solving using computer-based methodologies
  • Strong verbal and written communication and the ability to work autonomously when provided work instructions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
